Nailed It or Failed It - Shorts to Dress

Well I found this pair of Ugly shorts.  Let me just state up front that never at any point in time were they ever my pair of shorts or worn by me.  Now with that settled I thought they would make a cute dress.  This plaid was all the rage a couple of summers ago, but I still thought it would be fun to try and turn this into something this decade.  So I cut the legs apart, cut out the pockets, took off the belt loops and sewed them back together.  I used some scraps to make ties for the shoulders.  And that was it.  It was a long process I just kept sticking it back in my sewing cabinet and forgetting about it.  

Saturday at the Circus, The Good, The Bad, The Ugly!

Saturday.  We started by heading up to my Dad's workshop with all the kids in tow to work on my projects.  That's the bottom of my $10 furniture find.  Looking Good! If I do say so myself.  And our frame project.  More on that later.  So far it's a failed it for my project series. The steel wool staining has not worked quite right.  Anyways.  We had a good morning.  The plan was that once my stuff was done I would haul the kids home for nap time and Daniel would get to work with the big machines.  So onto the next photos.

This is what happened when I attempted to turn into my driveway.  A neighbor collided with me.  Needless to say that Daniel didn't get any work done.  He came straight home.  So our new van is un-drivable.  It broke the wheel or drive train.  Either way new van now broke.  My car, my driveway, my neighbor.  What a Saturday.  More explanation on this later.  We will let the dust settle.  Important things are children are fine, we are fine, van not fine.

Romper and Headband Tutorial

 So I headed down to JoAnn's Fabrics to get something to make a lace romper.  I decided on this fabric for 60% off.  It is not lace or ruffled, but I thought it had enough texture to get the look in the pictures that I was going for.   I also bought that feathery jewel there as well. 
For the romper I started by placing a onesie on the material to judge width and length.  I then cut the material into a square and folded it in half and sewed up one side.  To make the leg holes I cut a few inches up the middle of the tube I had made and sewed about an inch along the end of the cut.  Then I sewed down each side of the cut.  The basic body was done. 
I wanted to add straps to mine so I cut two strips the same width and length and ran parallel basting stitches down each strip.  I then gathered it and hand sewed them on the romper. 
I left all the edges raw on this project.  They sort of turn under or roll and  just add to the ruffle look, plus it was easier.  I'm all about shortcuts.  Is that terrible? But really could you tell if I hadn't told you?
For the headband, I cut another strip of fabric and folded it accordion style and hand stitched it together.  I then added some pearls I had leftover from a necklace project.  I also sewed some into the feather's jewel.  I then hot glued all of that on a barrette.  Once it was picture time the barrette would not stay so I ended up grabbing a scrap piece of fabric and wrapping it around and clipping the barrette to that. 
The pearls were some my mom was getting rid of.  What a perfect match. 
So I hope that makes sense and if I can find my pics of the process I'll add those soon.

Nailed It or Failed It 1

So this is my attempt to recreate a romper, headband, and photo featured on this Etsy site GWG Headband.  Sorry I don't know how to include the photo so you will have to click on it to compare mine.  But if you are at all familiar with the lace rompers you get the idea. I wanted something like that and wanted to cut the cost.   So for about $7.00 I made this. I'll post a full tutorial on it soon.  So did I nail it or fail it?

Something New

I have an idea.  I have been doing some DIY projects thanks to pinterest.  Well I have always done them, but now my to do list has multiplied exponentially thanks to pinterest.  So I hope to share some here soon.  Especially if they are photography related.  I have been very undecided on how much this blog would be about photography verses other stuff.  I know it's mostly been family so far, but I am probably changing that.  I hope to put up more projects on this one and share more photography stuff and blog more in general.
So I have decided to host "Nailed It or Failed It".  This will be a challenge to myself and a some of my fellow blogging friends to finish projects.  I hope to figure out how to set up a poll and get votes on whether or not the project was nailed or if it failed.  So in a very short while I will post my first entry into "Nailed It or Failed It"

Long time no Post!

Hi,
So life got crazy. Our sweet daughter was born in June, within three hours she was wisked away to the NICU. She was later diagnosed with PLA1. Wow. We never saw that coming. GOD IS FAITHFUL. I will update our emotions and the whole story on that later. Life is getting to a new pattern. We are starting school. I'm officially homeschooling a 1st grader. So far we love our curriculum. We had a big family wedding last weekend when my sister-in-law got married. Now it seems that life has slowed down and I'm loving it. So I am now attempting to post more regularly. Just throwing that out there for the miniscule population that even knows my blog exists. Thanks y'all. Here is our sweet girl.
